Every few weeks this spring, a new “step X of 7” landed and the whole TON crowd refreshed their feeds. Then step 4 arrived on June 1, and the countdown went quiet. We waited. We refreshed. Then we did what any reasonable gift-obsessed team would do: we drafted step 5 ourselves.

What is MTONGA, and which step is it on?

MTONGA, short for Make TON Great Again, is Pavel Durov’s seven-step plan to upgrade the TON blockchain. As of October 26, 2026, four steps are public and steps 5 to 7 haven’t been announced yet. The last one, step 4, was posted on June 1, 2026, which makes it 147 days of suspense at the time of writing.

Here is what shipped, straight from Durov’s channel:

  1. Speed. TON got about 10× faster, with a 6× higher block rate and subsecond transactions (April 9).
  2. Fees. Transaction fees dropped 6×, to almost nothing (May 4).
  3. Telegram steps in. Telegram replaced the TON Foundation as the driving force behind TON and became its largest validator (May 4).
  4. Gram is back. Toncoin, TON’s currency, is becoming Gram again, the name from the original white paper (June 1).

A faster, cheaper chain, run closer to Telegram, with its original name back. Great foundations. Now it needs more reasons for people to show up and stay. We have a suggestion.

Our unofficial step 5: Gift2Earn

Step 6: make gifts free again

Everyone’s making something great again. We’d rather make gifts free again.

In Gifters you can play without spending anything: a free first gift, a free daily box, a daily streak and tasks that pay Giftcoin. Paid boxes exist for people who want them, but they’re optional, and nothing you open can be cashed out. It’s a game, not a casino. Every free source is listed in free Telegram gifts.

Gifters gifts are virtual copies of Telegram gift collections. They don’t appear on your Telegram profile and can’t be withdrawn. Giftcoin is never sold and never paid out.

Step 7: $GIFT, with real purchasing power

$GIFT is the planned token for Gifters on TON. The plan is for $GIFT to have real purchasing power: buy real Telegram NFT gifts on TON with it, directly or by swapping to Gram. Fast blocks and near-zero fees from steps 1 and 2 are exactly what that needs.
